⚠️ Caution Spoilers!!!
WOW! Leaving the theater feels like I just hit a homerun! I really had no idea what to expect with this, I highly recommend watching it in Dolby Atmos. The acting, story, back story, cinematography, and the entirety of audio & music in the film were outstanding. Kudos to the entire sound team from composition, production & performance to editing, mixing, mastering & atmos. Let's get to the Dolby Atmos.
🎧 Major League Atmos
From the beginning to the end of the movie we’re immersed. Kicking it off somewhere in NYC: glasses clinking, people yapping, music blaring. It feels like a dive bar! Being a resident I definitely attest that it feels like you’re in one. Immediately we have a CRAZY appearance by The Flushing Grizzly, Mr. Wonderful himself, The Bronsaliño, Action Bronson. The story continues and scenes change throughout the city. The ambience and environment they created is wonderful. Cars, people, vendors, it sounds and better yet, feels like I'm in the middle of the action in NYC, following this bartender Hank. Early in the movie he wakes up from a flashback. I began to smile and turn my head. That's when the statement was made, the people who did this film are NOT PLAYING. The music, score, foley, sound fx are extremely well done. Nothing is missed, everything you see in the scene is heard and felt.
🔊Loudness & Dynamics
The audio didn’t feel limited or pushed or lacking in any way. Nothing harsh or piercing and no unwanted frequencies distracting us while we experience the Dolby Atmos & Movie. The dynamic and immersive balance are beautiful. In moments like the flashbacks, it's shocking, loud and feels real. Specifically to the flashbacks, I loved how the audio slowly reveals itself though the movie, so well done. In intimate moments like having matza ball soup with Bubbe, going through airport security or playing baseball on the street with your friends, the room feels like it would when you’re in those moments.
🎚️LFE
Immaculate balance and use of the LFE throughout the film. From start to finish there are thumping bar scenes, fights, car crashes, explosions, and music that supports every frame. Not once did there feel like lack of LFE, bass or low end in any moment of the film. They were dialed in.
🎬 Favorite Moments
The flashbacks: Immaculate detail. When these start happening there’s no context to how much of a role they play in the film. Immaculate immersive moments.
New York: I really loved how it felt like I was in New York. The way the ambiance and energy was captured and played back for us really made me feel like I'm about to walk into a bodega and get my chopped cheese and fries with extra pepper.
Running from the Monster: This scene was so immersive. Panning from running through the stores, kitchen, streets, to a car crash with small details like hearing the movement of bottles clinking. Incredibly well done.
Welcome to Narnia: Recently I had the horrible pleasure of spending A LOT of time in storage units and this entire scene was like ptsd because it felt like we were in this crammed storage unit!
All Music: Too much to write. Everything fits. When you need ambient energy to explosive wild card montages. The immersive support the music had to the entire film was top notch.
We Can Sort This Out: This is a CRAZY scene. It gives you the visceral feeling that you really wanna work things out with this bartender. Who knew he hated smoking so much? ;)
The Outro: You got caught stealing an amazing immersive outro!
