Leaving the theater feels like walking off the field from a game where I think we did well but didn’t win. HIM, the 2025 movie produced by Jordan Peele is a thrilling football horror. The film focuses on the dark side of what it takes to be at the upper echelon of an industry like the NFL and the dark trials and tribulations one goes through to attain the status as GOAT. This was a refreshing new take on horror in 2025. The acting was great. The soundtrack and film score were fantastic. The color and cinematography complimented the movie. The Dolby Atmos had its moments, but ended up getting sacked. Huddle up and let's talk Atmos!
🎧 Dolby Atmos
The transition FX, soundtrack and film score were what got the Atmos playing ball but didn’t cross the end zone. Moments of Gucci Mane samples, choirs, Mobb Deep & a tasty film score had a good feel and placement that helped moments stand out. The transition FX for scene changes were like the QB and enhanced moments to the full immersive spectrum. The intro choirs felt great and immersed us. The party scenes were bumping and really brought you into the party. The Atmos mix overall just felt safe. A majority of the film felt forward or 5.1. It felt as if the rear 3rd of the room wasn’t being used at all.
🔊 Dynamics & Loudness
The dynamic range was good! From whispers and sneaking footsteps, to a stadium full of fans and coaches screaming. The film didn’t feel over compressed or too open / under compressed. Transitions like the ice plunge show great range taking us from a quiet focused moment to an intense speaker pumping scene in a blink of an eye. The balance was fair, the music / soundtrack was some of the best. Towards the beginning the Dialogue felt overpowering which was pretty distracting, but then it balanced out before we got deep into the movie.
🎚️LFE
The LFE was enveloping when used. It shined in the intro, on transitions and during party scenes. The low end felt a bit underused as a whole but when it hit it HIT!
🎬 Favorite Moments
Transitions: Full surround and frequency range.
Smack the glass: This felt like I was inside the SUV with Cam.
The music: All the music was done well and probably some of the most immersive parts of the movie.
The Sacrifice: Alright this got immersive and INTENSE!
House Party: This felt and sounded as if I was really at the party celebrating with the players!
Recovery & Longevity: This moment shows the dynamic range. When Cam’s taking deep breaths, we feel each breath surround us.
💡 Final Thoughts

HIM is a good story with great acting and an immersive soundtrack. The Dolby Atmos throughout the entire film wasn’t strong enough to win the game though. I recommend this for a good take on sports horror! But, if you’re expecting an immersive Super Bowl.... this is not that.
