M3GAN 2.0 (2025)

Leaving the theater after the early release of M3GAN 2.0, I was very impressed. The acting, cinematography, and Dolby Atmos mix all delivered. The film’s story is packed with twists and tension. This robot keeps you guessing 🦾🤖 and the Atmos literally gets you out of your seat.

If you enjoyed the first film, you won’t be disappointed, especially not with the Atmos experience 🔊. The performances were strong, the score was excellent, and the visuals were beautifully executed. I’d recommend this without hesitation and hope the team is already planning a third! Now let's talk Dolby Atmos.

🎧 The Atmos

From the opening scene, you can feel the mix setting the tone. Immersive and dynamic, the intro immediately locks you into the world and pace of the film.

The loudness sat comfortably in the “medium” range, impactful without being overwhelming, no painful or distracting frequencies. It created a cinematic soundfield that let you experience the film, not just watch it. The mix had cohesion, but never felt overly compressed, but had a "glue" to the mix bringing it together. There was good dynamic range from start to finish 🎛️.

The attention to detail was obvious. You can hear everything, gears turning, the careful shuffle of robot parts, zippers shaking, things flying past you, and those eerie shallow breaths right before chaos breaks loose.

 🎼 Immersion Without Distraction

The balance of the mix helped fully immerse you without pulling focus from the screen. It complemented the visuals and brought the robotic AI chaos of the M3GAN universe to life. The score by Chris Bacon was a standout, placed and paced perfectly.

Spatially, the use of Atmos was fantastic. The sound field expands and contracts in sync with the action. You’ll find yourself holding your breath with the characters as they hide from.. well, you’ll see. The mix wasn’t only technical, you could feel it was emotional. Kudos to the entire team and everyone involved for their oustanding work.

🎵 Tasteful Use of LFE

The low end was handled with restraint and precision. While the action scenes hit hard, some of the most thrilling low-end moments came during the quietest moves. It’ll raise your pulse without flooding the room.

🔥 Favorite Atmos Moments 🔥

  • “Therapy Session”

  • “Race to the House”

  • “The Build”

  • “The Free Fall”

Each of these scenes makes full use of the Atmos canvas, they’re immersive, aggressive, and very cinematic. Also you don't want to miss M3GAN's solo performance!

Final Verdict: 4 out of 5 Bags 💰

The Atmos mix is dynamic and intentional. But there are moments where it feels slightly held back and flat, not for moments that are too long, tastfuly they could be a bit often. But to notice you'd have to be some Dolby nerd who sits in mix position, brings a redlight.note pad and enjoys the atmos a little too much or something..lol. That said, this film delivers a highly immersive experience from start to finish.

I highly recommend catching this in Atmos if you can. I’m now officially a fan of the M3GAN franchise, and I’m hoping there’s more on the way. 🍿
