🐺The Bad Guys 2 (2025) In Dolby Atmos: Who Really Got Robbed?

The Bad Guys (2025)

Walking out of the theater, I felt like an accomplice to some of the worlds worst (or maybe best?) The Bad Guys 2 is no doubt a fun, thrilling sequel. But when it comes to reviewing the Dolby Atmos, maybe I'm the bad guy? Let's chop it up!

🎧 The Atmos Experience:

Before the movie started I was HYPE. The studio behind this is the same crew who gave us the new How to Train Your Dragon Live Action, which has PHENOMENAL Atmos. The story here is strong: funny, well spaced, & beautifully animated. The Atmos expectations were high and the Bad Guys didn't quite deliver.

The mix balance felt front heavy. It was very “in your face” but didn’t feel like much depth or wraparound immersion. There were a few standout moments, but for the most part the sound stayed locked in the front wall.

📢 LFE

The LFE was wonderful. Always felt balanced and never overpowering. When it hits in scenes like the “wolf growl”, it hits you perfectly. 

⚡ Loudness & Dynamics

Overall it was loud almost like a limiter was riding the entire film. It wasn’t painful, but it capped the dynamic range, keeping everything forward and aggressive. 

🔥 Favorite Moments:

• The Wolf Growl: Be careful when the big bad wolf bites - you actually feel it! The LFE and surround sound was so well done! This scene makes you jump out of your seat.

• The entire soundtrack: It may not have been the most immersive but the entire soundtrack set such a great energy. From Busta Rhymes to Cardi B the music was epic.

• Club Scene: Made the entire theater dance. I was surprised when I heard her voice, great music to match the scene!

• “Enjoy the Lollipop” The Best Advice from the Worst: This was a very good moment in Atmos. Subtly getting immersed by the music & ambience, really brings you into the moment with them. 

• Lucha Libre: Great Atmos and space they put you in. We’re ringside at a lucha match!! The energy gets CRAZY in this scene.

Overall The Bad guys 2 is a great sequel! I'm excited to see their universe grow. It’s funny, full of energy & animated beautifully. To me, the Dolby Atmos experience was underwhelming. It seems like the focus was more loudness & stereo translation and not leaning in on full immersive. Still the wolf growl, the lucha libre, & the music kept the experience alive. If you’re a fan of the franchise you'll love it! If you’re here for the Dolby Atmos magic, you might finish this movie feeling like YOU got robbed.
