⚠️ Caution Spoilers!!!
Alright. Leaving the theater and heading straight to church. The Dolby Atmos is scary good, actually quite phenomenal. If you are a fan of the franchise this family finale delivers. It’s based on a true story so there’s a lot to unpack in a short time... I’m not big on horror but for the love of Atmos and you, we’re going to go exercise some demons. Let's talk Atmos!
🎧 Dolby Atmos
Bless everyone on the audio & music team for conjuring this immersive masterpiece in Dolby Atmos. When the film started everything seemed stereo? My expectations plummeted: but suddenly an eeriness and tension began to fill the theater. Sounds of spirits, ominous ambience, and the darkness began surrounding us as we were immersed in the conjuring. The intro had begun!
How the Dolby Atmos supported visuals on the screen was magnificent. The techniques used in immersive are top shelf. The film uses panning, silence, motion and balance at an expert level. A favorite example - The beginning with the storm: The rain stayed forward and stereo! Initially it kind of felt like a lost moment for immersive... or so I thought. As we focused on the rain being forward following what's on the screen, we were slowly and suddenly presented with other worldly beings, demons, & spirits. However, they didn't appear on screen, they surround us in our seats! Everyone in the theater felt it. That’s some high level psychological tricks and decisions the team used to make big immersive moments and horrify us as the tension seeps in.. well done! This entire adventure with the Warren family was full of blood thrilling Dolby Atmos start to finish.
🔊Loudness & Dynamics
The dynamics and loudness are extremely dialed in. It never felt harsh, limited or lacking anything in the volume or frequency scale. It has a great dynamic range from scenes like meeting with the priest in a quiet church to thrilling speeding muscle cars scenes in thunder storms where it feels like we’re about to crash!! (Maybe some F1 inspiration?;) - just playing around lol) There are amazing audio transitions that happen all throughout, tastefully supporting the volume of the scenes. A great example is the light falling during the tense family dinner taking us from a quiet ambience in a home setting to an impactfully immersed GTFO there’s a demon here setting!! For how haunting the movie is, the audio feels perfect.
🎚️LFE
The LFE delivers and is beyond exceptional. It's impactful, well balanced and tasteful throughout the entire film! Scenes like “something is in the attic” and “having the baby!!”, the low end is mixed so well you ask yourself if it’s the LFE or if your blood is actually buzzing and it’s probably both!
🎬 Favorite Moments
