Zootopia 2 is 5 out of 5 BAGS!!!Ā Iāts a crazy adventure, fun sequel, touching story, and has incredible animation AND the Dolby Atmos is out of this zoo! Lmfao. Let's talk about it!!
š§ Dolby AtmosĀ
The Dolby Atmos was outstanding! A job well done by the team. The attention to detail was A1. Slight panning following the main characters dialog to follow their positions on screen. The conversations that bounce back and forth from on screen to characters off screen placement was done brilliantly. The soundtrack, filmscore and soundFX audio felt extremely immersive and well placed with such good energy in the theater. The soundscapes like the intro where our main characters seem to be yelling in a chamber turned our entire theater into their chamber. Feeling the reflections being thrown all around with subtle music supporting the scene and immersing us in the moment, these soundscape moments happen all throughout the movie and are very well done. The team's extensive work to really transport us into each car, tunnel, cave, control room, chamber, and prison cell with the right ambience and placement was superb. The entire time during the film it never felt like we were just watching it. We were on a full adventure alongside our favorite detectives Hops & Wilde. ExperiencingĀ the next biggest case in Zootopia history all because of the Dolby Atmos being as compelling, detailed, and extremely cared for as it was. Amazing.
šļø Sonic Texture
Ā
I was so impressed with the sonic characteristics and quality throughout the whole movie. Since the Dolby Atmos was done by Disney I wasnāt expecting it to be as good as it was. Before it started I was already on edge and ready for my ears to start hurting lol. But, Zootopia 2 was different. From the beginning weāre absorbed by the nostalgia of the Disney intro. Strings swelling, horns and fireworks popping, lush sonics filled the theater with deep support by the LFE. There was never a moment when the sonics got uncomfortable for the viewers, overbearing, or harsh. Everything felt full, well balanced and audibly clear. The music, soundFX, and film score all had a beautiful frequency spectrum. The music wasnāt just used for background either. It plays an integral role in the experience of the film, transporting us to the chase scenes with heart pumping drums and slow motion moments with deep LFE energy to stop time for us. The support the music plays in this film is unmatched and for this to sound better than some albums in immersive is remarkable. Kudos to the team!Ā
šĀ Dynamics & LoudnessĀ
Volume and dynamic range is great! The audio never feels constrained, limited, over compressed or lacking in volume at any point. The dialog is the main focus and its volume has fantastic placement and motion and is consistently audible. We donāt get introduced to the LFE right away. There is a strong low end foundation that the music and environment create. For a bit you start to wonder if this is as deep as the bass and low end get. When the LFE is introduced about 20 minutes in, you start to feel the fullness and the power of the LFE, with a huge transient that displays the dynamic capabilities. The dynamics are really noticeable in the immersive reverbs. Itās usually quite easy to notice if the audio is over compressed because the immersive reverbs get SUPER loud especially during intimate moments like the āprison talkā where we are in these empty cement cells with a great reverb that feels very natural.
šļø LFEĀ
It would have been completely different if the LFE didnāt play as important of a role in this. The LFE brings the sonic picture together. It never feels boomy or as if thereās too much bass overall. The low end frequencies donāt muddy or mask the rest of the audio. In the beginning itās used sparingly and weāre kind of missing it. Itās introduced slowly, accompanying crashes, hits, and random jump scares. As the adventure grows we start to feel a more consistent low end. The music starts to have more LFE & bottom foundation. There are more dramatic moments happening like fights, falls, chase scenes, and slow motion that use LFE to enhance the experience of the moment for us.
š¬ Favorite Moments
Hopping on Nitrous: The first major LFE drop that shakes the building!
Coconut Scream: When you hear Wilde falling off a cliff the screams of ācoconutā are so immersive lol
The Chase Scenes: The music, commotion and animation is a great example of controlled chaos.
Pawberts Abyss: The LFE swell here is epic!
Fight Scene:Ā SFX hits and music is everywhere! The soundtrack is pumping and the foley of the movement, thuds, environment, and background characters are another great example of controlled chaos!
Wishing Well: This is right at the beginning where Judy is trapped in a well or chamber? The reflections and ambience here is a great way to start off!!
š” Final Thoughts
