🎹 MIXNIK AUDIO ENGINEERING SUMMIT 2025 ATLANTA, GA

Written by Danielle Starz Garcia

We had an incredible time attending MixNik 2025 hosted by Wavy Wayne and Wavy Pro Audio in Atlanta, Georgia. This was our first time at MixNik, but I had heard nothing but amazing things from the previous year so I was very excited to be attending.

Let me just say, this was the most fun I have ever had at an audio event! It was also my first time in Atlanta, and this is an extremely special community of very talented and supportive people. The event was buzzing with great energy, passion, and excitement for the entire two days. For anyone who hasn’t had the chance to attend, here is a short breakdown of what goes on at MixNik:

This year it was TWO jam packed days of learning, listening to panels, trying out gear, networking, and tons of fun giveaways. We even participated in a mix competition! This event brought together studio owners, musicians, producers, and engineers from all over the world! If you are able to make it out to Atlanta, I can't recommend this event enough! It's worth the trip.

This event was extra special to us as Jonathan was part of the Dolby Atmos Panel, getting to teach and share his insight on the format alongside some other incredible engineers- but more on that later... ;-)

Day one of MixNik started out with an incredibly inspiring panel called "The Atlanta Effect" which gave us great insight on the Atlanta music and studio scene! We were blessed to learn from, BLACK, 3D, Leslie Brathwaite, KurtCurt, Prizzie, and Jeff on the Boards. Looking back, it was definitely one of my favorite panels of the event. They spoke about their experiences working in the Atlanta music scene, how they got into working in the music industry, and shared heartfelt moments and advice. I was truly touched and it brought tears to my eyes hearing them speak so passionately about their journeys.

Following a strong kickoff to the event, we went to explore some of the vendor rooms. Something that stood out to me was watching a jaw dropping demo led by Ben Camp from SUNO + Prompt Haus on AI producing and songwriting. It was insane to see how AI is able to create full length production and aid in songwriting- scary and amazing at the same time.

We then watched a fascinating panel talking about AI and Artistry, one of the most controversial topics and panels of the event. This panel definitely stood out to me and I enjoyed hearing the back and forth argument of the pros and cons of AI in our industry. There is surely a lot of fear surrounding this topic but also a lot of opportunity. I think something we can all agree on, regardless on if we support AI or oppose it, is that AI demands more regulation and every creative must be compensated for their work.

The last panel of the day was the "Immersive Audio Unlocked" Panel, where I got to enjoy listening to Jonathan Garcia share a ton of incredible information and his love for Immersive and Atmos! He was a panelist alongside this absolutely amazing group: Blu Giovanni, Daniella Rivera, and Matt Weiss. They were all so exciting to listen to and to learn from and shared so much valuable knowledge.

Friday Night we had a blast ending our night at Bravo Ocean Studios, an absolutely beautiful studio where we got to watch the legendary Young Guru run a session. This was seriously one of the coolest experiences ever. There’s nothing like watching Picasso paint, and this was one of those once in a lifetime experiences.

Day Two of MixNik was just as amazing as the first, starting out with a Mastering and Business Lesson from the amazing Ryan Schwabe. This was another one of my favorite moments from this weekend. Ryan is extremely knowledgeable and a gifted teacher, truly taking the time to share and explain his mastering process and techniques and giving us insight in how he organizes his business - something not often shared in our industry. It was a very interesting and helpful lesson and I was thankful to hear it!

Afterwards we had the absolute treat of watching a Young Guru Build Demo- this was fascinating as I am someone not very well versed in hardware, but I am familiar with how expensive this gear is! It was so cool to get to see him build and give us a very thorough tutorial of how to do it. He shared all his tips, answered so many questions, and gave us recommendations on where beginners should start. Building my own gear is something I would love to do someday in the future! It doesn’t resonate with exactly where I am now at this point in time, but it was amazing to watch and learn nonetheless. I also feel like moments like this are what make MixNik such a unique and incredible experience!

Day two was jam packed with information and incredible panels back to back! Another panel that stood out to me was the extremely inspiring Women in Music panel! As a woman, I always appreciate an all woman panel and love hearing and connecting to their experiences. It was a very fun and very positive group to listen to. So much talent, hard work and perseverance in one room!

The rest of the day went as follows: We headed back out into breakout rooms and spent our time with Blu Giovanni in the Immersive room, catching his advice and looking at his sessions. Next, we headed over to the modern mixing techniques panel which was yet another endlessly interesting and inspiring conversation. After that, we were blessed again with another legendary experience- watching Leslie Brathwaite break down his mix for Cardi B’s new hit song, “Outside”. MixNik never stopped being fun, entertaining, exciting and continuously threw so much valuable information at us!

We ended the summit with an AKON Mix Competition, which was incredibly insightful getting to hear 8 legendary mixes! It was such a fun experience and a cool way to end the event. It was one of my absolute favorite moments for sure! I’m so thankful for the experience and for all of the feedback.

The afterparty was held at Vintage King Demo Studio which was such a beautiful space. It was an honor to attend and to get to meet so many talented and incredible people. Thank you Vintage King for a night we will never forget!

Thank you so much MixNik and the Wavy Pro Audio Team and SAE Institute for having us! It was such an honor to have Jon as a panelist, for both of us being at this event alongside such talented and kind people, this community is truly so welcoming and so much fun! I made so many new friends that I can’t wait to see them again next time! See you soon Atlanta!!!
